A native to Washington, D.C., Mycal was a collegiate athlete at the Air Force Academy and Texas A&M-Commerce, as well as a U.S. Marine. He has discovered how important your core is in the manipulation of your own mass. That is where it all truly starts and everything else is built on that foundation. Mycal is currently pursuing a MS in exercise and wellness at Arizona State. He strives to help you achieve your goals and show you the path to a better life!

Janis strongly believes in challenging and encouraging her clients to exceed their physical and emotional boundaries through functional exercise, nutritional counseling and custom tailored routines. Her ability to service a variety of clientele stems from her past experience in athletic training for the University of Michigan football team as well as assisting pre and post pregnant women and operative clients making her capable to address the personal needs of many in a professional and educated manner. Janis also enjoys long distance running, tennis, skiing and hiking in her free time.

A Long Island, New York native, Brian was a collegiate ACHA division 1 hockey player for the Arizona Icecats, and was also a student athletic trainer and student strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Wildcats. Brian is also a licensed K-12 physical education teacher in both Arizona and Colorado. He has a physical therapy out-patient clinical background along with working with post-operation patients. Brian specializes in sports specific training, general nutrition, weight management, post-operation injury rehabilitation, youth training, abdominal and core training. He enjoys playing golf, tennis and hockey in his free time.

Josh has been a personal trainer at the Gainey Village since 2000. He is a graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelor’s of science in dietetics.

Danika has been training at the Village for a number of years. She has worked in a physical therapy setting, coached youth activities, and has taught dance. She enjoys working with a wide range of ages and abilities and when it comes to her clients, she strives to make their fitness experience an enjoyable one. Danika stresses the importance of keeping her clients injury free while establishing strength and correcting dysfunctions when possible. She believes in balancing one’s needs and wants when setting and attaining fitness goals.

Nate Davis
Originally from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Nate has a bachelor’s of science in kinesiology from the University of Maryland.

Nate is a former power lifter with a national championship in the 181 pound division. He was also an amateur boxer fighting out of Sugar Ray Leonard’s gym in Palmer Park, Maryland. Nate has a broad background from his 13 years of personal training and has worked with competitive professional athletes, seniors in post rehab and everything in between.

Corey Degenstein
Corey graduated from Minnesota State University-Moorhead with a bachelor’s of science in fitness and operations management and earned a master’s of science in exercise science-human performance from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

As a former collegiate athlete, Chris understands how hard work, consistency and perseverance directly lead to continual progression and eventually goal achievement. Chris, however, is not just a trainer for athletes. His versatility of training protocol along with his positive attitude allows him to work with any type of client population. Regardless of your skill, your goals can be realized as long as you have the will.

Grant Peterson grew up playing competitive sports year round in Denver, Colorado. After receiving his bachelor’s degree he began his personal training career in Southwest Colorado. He recently relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona where he has been training for the Gainey Village going on 2+ years. Grant specializes in helping his clients to reach high levels of fitness through functional movements and variety. He enjoys being highly active and spending time with his friends and family.

From opening day in August 1999 until the present, Winkie has had the opportunity to assist many people with their fitness goals. Winkie’s experience has included working with members of all ages, many of whom have had unique issues which affect their daily living. These included stroke, cancer, pregnancy, handicaps, obesity, muscular and weakness disability. Winkie is a lifelong advocate of keeping active.

Sue Zollner
Sue graduated with a bachelor’s of science in physical education and English from Western Illinois University.

Sue is a veteran personal trainer at the Gainey Village, having been here over 9 years. She moved to Arizona in 2000 from the Chicago area where she grew up, went to college and raised her family. Sue has been in the exercise field since 1988 teaching aerobic fitness classes and moved into the training genre in the mid 1990′s. She specializes in working with joint replacement, arthritis, osteoporosis and injury post-rehab clients. Sue has developed the 50/50+ Program for the Village – an ever-changing series of classes designed for ‘Boomers and Beyond’ that focuses on balance, stretching, coordination and strength training.
