George Naum

Gainey Village Personal Trainer

Coach Naum received his bachelor’s degree in human movement, sciences, and physical education from Boston University.  He comes to the Village from Southern California where he taught kinesiology and was an assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator at Santa Monica College. In his 30-year career he has owned and operated 10 health and fitness clubs while also designing and developing over 40 independent clubs nationwide. George ended a five-year contract as head football coach and general manager for the Carinthian Lions in Austria where he guided them to the professional Austrian football league’s National Silver Bowl Championship.

 

Coach Naum has a diverse background in personaltraining having worked with all ages and ability levels. He believes each client should have a specific program designed personally for them in order to best achieve their health and fitness goals.

Daniel Chanko

Gainey Village Personal Trainer

Daniel graduated from Arizona State University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.  Since then he has worked in several different capacities in the health and fitness industry including personal training, corporate wellness, and in cardiac rehab where he helped patients recover from open heart surgery.

Daniel played competitive sports all through high school and college focusing on basketball and tennis. He also enjoys coaching youth basketball in his spare time and any hobbies that keep him active. Daniel specializes in training clients with high health risk factors and previous injuries due to his clinical background.

Erica Trudell

Erica holds a bachelor’s of science in Health Sciences from Almeda University.

Fitness Specializations and Interests

Erica has been in the health and fitness industry for over 12 years. Starting in group exercise, she taught hydro, body sculpting, kickboxing, core strength, flexibility and more. She then accepted the Health and Wellness coordinator position at the Cadillac YMCA, where she created the fitness program, overseeing a staff of 9 instructors. Which ended up becoming the YMCA of the USA. She trained and certified instructors in group exercise and attained her own personal trainer certification. She was sick of the snow and cold in Michigan which brought her to sunny Arizona. Her specialties include; corrective exercise, body sculpting and toning, weight loss, core strength, flexibility and cardiovascular conditioning.

Katie Suzewitz

Katie graduated from Eastern Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science; grew up playing basketball, soccer, and dance. Katie has had experience training all ages while as a fitness trainer in Illinois.

Exercise Philosophy

When training endurance and strength it is just as important to train flexibility, balance, and core strength. Forming customized exercise routines to achieve each client’s main goal while improving muscle imbalances, joint stabilization and flexibility.

John Spead

John attended the University of El Paso with a concentration in Exercise Science.

John, a Boston native, has been training for more than 18 years and has clients from all backgrounds. John’s specialties include athletic conditioning, post rehabilitation, flexibility and core training. John is an avid Boston sports fan.

Winkie Schwartz

Winkie attended Arizona State University and is ACE certified.

A lifelong advocate of physical fitness, Winkie has lived in Arizona her entire life, attended Arizona State University, and has been a Certified Personal Trainer since 1999 with the American Council on Exercise. Hired by the Gainey Village Health Club in 1999, Winkie quickly found her niche in training people who desired knowing more about functional movement, flexibility, stretching, and of course, weight training. Winkie incorporates many things when training her clients,  including multi-joint moves, stability, balance, body-weight exercises, and stretching. She has worked with many individuals who have specific challenges, including stroke, hip and knee replacements, and the art of aging gracefully. Above all, the workouts are customized for each client, and designed for a lifetime of feeling good!

John Preston

John graduated from California State University, Long beach with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, Athletic training option.

John has been helping clients improve their health, fitness and lives for 20 years. John utilizes a balanced, progressive approach to fitness. Through proper instruction, motivation and education, John can help guide you to achieve all of your health, fitness and wellness goals. John continually analyzes his clients’ functional abilities, limitations and muscle imbalances. John has a strong background in developing corrective exercise programs to address a wide array of physical pain or limitations. Once any limitations or imbalances are corrected, John will seamlessly transition each client’s program to include more dynamic and functional full body exercises. John is very comfortable with a  wide range of clients, and loves the challenge of developing unique and personalized programs for each client.

Grant received his bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

Grant Peterson grew up playing competitive sports year round in Denver, Colorado. After receiving his bachelor’s degree he began his personal training career in Southwest Colorado. He recently relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona where he has been training for the Gainey Village going on 7+ years. Grant specializes in helping his clients to reach high levels of fitness through functional movements and variety. He enjoys being highly active and spending time with his friends and family.

Erik Pence

After serving 12 years with the United States Marine Corps, Erik received his Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences and a Masters degree in Kinesiology from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Erik’s passion for fitness began at the age of 12 with olympic weight lifting and he has been involved in sports as an athlete and trainer ever since. He has excelled in sports performance as an athlete for the University of Arizona and as a competitive Olympic Weight Lifter.
Prior to joining the Village staff, Erik was responsible for designing sports performance and fitness programs at Foothills Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. He evaluated and tested muscular strength, muscular endurance, and muscular flexibility. In addition to his position with Foothills Sports Medicine Institute, Erik’s career highlights include working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Department of Sports Performance at the University of Arizona in Tucson, as the Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Cleveland Indians professional baseball organization, and as a kinesiological researcher at the Kronos Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Chris Morrison

Chris holds a bachelor of science degree in movement and sports studies from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.

Chris has been in the fitness industry for over 15 years.  As a former collegiate athlete, Chris understands how hard work, consistency and perseverance directly lead to continual progression and eventually goal achievement. Chris, however, is not just a trainer for athletes. His versatility of training protocol along with his positive attitude allows him to work with any type of client population. Regardless of your skill, your goals can be realized as long as you have the will.

Christopher Morin

Christopher graduated from Brandeis University with a bachelor’s of science in biology.

Christopher has been a personal trainer at Gainey Village for more than 11 years. He has over 15 years of personal training experience and is a graduate of the Equinox Fitness Training Institute in New York City. Christopher emphasizes function training with his clients. He specializes in body toning, increasing strength, weight management, small group training, young adult athletic training, balance/coordination, and flexibility. As a Corrective Exercise Specialist, Christopher can determine muscular imbalances and faulty movement patterns using static and dynamic postural assessments, allowing him to create exercise programs to improve movement efficiency and prevent injury. Christopher embraces any and all forms of exercise. He has trained for and completed a marathon, half-marathon, multiple triathlons and Tough Mudder races. Christopher also enjoys hiking and skiing.

Alissa Crandall

Alissa earned her Masters Degree in Sports Biomechanics from Ball State University. Alissa graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science.

After graduating Alissa became a Personal Trainer working in Irvine, CA at the Sports Club Irvine until 1998. For the past 15 years, she pursued a new passion and career, and became a Collegiate, Division I Strength and Conditioning Coach. She had the privilege of working at Ball State, The University of Tennessee, The University of South Carolina and The University of Virginia. Her sports involvement and personal interests include competitive swimming and dance.

Corey Degenstein – Fitness Director

Corey graduated from Minnesota State University-Moorhead with a bachelor’s of science in fitness and operations management and earned a master’s of science in exercise science-human performance from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Fitness Specializations and Interests

A Long Island, New York native, Brian was a collegiate ACHA division 1 hockey player for the Arizona Icecats, and was also a student athletic trainer and student strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Wildcats. Brian is also a licensed K-12 physical education teacher in both Arizona and Colorado. He has a physical therapy out-patient clinical background along with working with post-operation patients. Brian specializes in sports specific training, general nutrition, weight management, post-rehabilitation, youth training, abdominal and core training. He enjoys playing golf, tennis and hockey in his free time.
