LIFE'S BETTER AT THE VILLAGE

Indoor Cycling and Spin class came on the scene over 20 years ago and its popularity is still growing.

While the terms Spin and Indoor Cycling are used interchangeably, generally meaning a fitness club class that replicates riding a bike outdoor. An Indoor Cycling class can also incorporate other fun aspects that you wouldn’t want to try on the road and you might not find in more traditional spin classes.

At the Village Clubs we offer numerous Indoor Cycling classes everyday of the week at our various locations. Cycling is a group fitness class focused on endurance, interval, strength, and high intensity training meant to resemble riding outside on the road. If you’re looking to boost your cardio, do something fun and different, or literally get off the treadmill of life, consider jumping on a bike inside.

There are many benefits to riding indoors and outdoors; let’s focus on the indoor cycling benefits. A word to the wise, before you can enjoy the indoor cycling benefits about to be described, you need a qualified, experienced instructor that takes the time to make sure you are set up on your bike correctly, such as the height of your seat. The instructor also needs to give verbal cues during the class that elevate your workout and keep you safe. A great instructor will motivate you in a safe, fun environment.

Low Impact & Recovery Friendly

Cycling is a low impact activity that avoids the pounding on your joints that other forms of exercise can have; however, you should always have some tension on the bike. You should never feel like your legs are spinning out of control. Even if you have an upper body injury this class is a non-jarring way to get back in the swing of your fitness routine. Also, if you are lucky enough to have avoided joint pain up until now, try to keep that up by adding this low impact activity into your routine.

Cardiovascular Benefits

Indoor Cycling classes can help reduce the risk of coronary artery disease (as does all continuous cardiovascular activity) in a fun class atmosphere. It’s a great way to get in the recommended weekly minutes of moderate (or vigorous)-intensity exercise. For many people, getting the blood pumping and the heart muscle working is challenging and not “fun.” Enjoy being guided through a fun routine and the hour will have passed before you know it, getting you that much closer to your fitness and weight loss goals.

Muscular Endurance

Spin class and Indoor Cycling classes increases the muscular endurance of your quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, and glutes which in turn helps to strengthen the bones, tendons and ligaments surrounding these muscles. The continuous repetitive exertion of force (pedaling) helps create muscular endurance. Regardless of where you are in your fitness journey, the bikes can be customized so you only work as hard as you want to. If you’re a beginner, a novice, or a triathlete, you control your ride.

Stress Reducer

Energetic Indoor Cycling classes can produce that rush of adrenaline, that ‘runner’s high’ feeling, known as endorphins. Endorphins help lower stress and generally put us in a better mood! Feel the energy of the class and enjoy some time in the great indoors. Don’t worry about traffic or finding your helmet on this ride! What’s more important than anything when it comes to your fitness routine and goals is to find something you enjoy doing time and time again.
