LIFE'S BETTER AT THE VILLAGE

I had the opportunity to take my first aerial yoga class more than two years ago and immediately I loved how the practice resonated with me. I laughed like a child, felt a different intensity in stretches, and didn’t want to move out of my yoga “cocoon” after Savasana. I wanted, and craved more, and am now so excited we offer aerial yoga classes at the Village Gainey and DC Ranch locations.

Most people I speak with assume you need previous aerial or yoga experience – which isn’t true. All you need is an open mind and a readiness to experience a class that might take you back to a time when you played on the playground and felt light and carefree.

The benefits of aerial yoga are numerous, including:

  • Decompression of the spine
  • Increases core stability
  • Challenges the alignment of the body in space
  • Increases mental clarity and alertness
  • Cultivates playfulness and confidence
  • Enhances body and breath awareness
  • Relieves back strain
  • Improves flexibility and strength

“My first aerial yoga class at the Village was outstanding. The environment is intimate and the instructors are knowledgeable. Because of the aerial hammock, I was able to take my yoga poses further than ever before and was able to stretch my muscles deeper as a result. It’s both physically intense and relaxing in the same session. I can’t wait to do it again!” – Margie Traylor, Village Club member

Aerial Yoga at the Village

The Village offers classes for several types of yoga, including a variety of aerial yoga classes:

  • Aerial Yoga; you want the full aerial experience —to fly, float, flow, and invert
  • Aerial Sound Meditation; meditation and resting in the aerial silk-like hammock
  • Aerial Stretch and Savasana; increase your flexibility and improve strength but do not want to do any aerial inversions

Aerial Yoga (offered at Gainey and DC Ranch)

The Aerial Yoga class is a combination of traditional yoga poses done on the floor and postures practiced using a soft aerial hammock suspended at waist height. We use the hammock to keep alignment, build strength in the body, and improve flexibility. It’s appropriate for first-time aerial yoga students as well as those who want to continue to learn or refine their aerial practice. As in all yoga practices, modifications are offered. Inversions are included in this class, but are not required — participants always have the option to ‘skip the flip.’

Aerial Sound Meditation (offered at Gainey)

Begin your journey with Yoga Nidra — gentle breath work and awareness of the body, which guides you into a state of relaxation equivalent to three to four hours of deep sleep. The benefits include repairing muscle tissue, aiding in digestion, cell rejuvenation, aids in mental clarity and focus, and much more. Experience the soothing sounds of the alchemy Crystal Bowls, bringing you almost immediately to a profound state of relaxation and peace. It’s ommmmazing.

Aerial Stretch and Savasana (offered at Gainey and DC Ranch)

Increase your flexibility as you guide your body through traditional yoga poses done on the floor, and postures practiced using the hammock suspended at waist height. Complete your aerial journey with a 15-minute Savasana for full relaxation and rejuvenation. This class also skips the flip so inversions aren’t practiced making it great for beginners.

Aerial classes offer a “wow” experience, in part, because even for first-time students the learning curve is a quick incline. Any awkwardness students may feel at first soon transforms into comfort and ease. Even poses that look difficult to do are taught in a step-by-step way so they are approachable enough for people of all fitness levels, and modifications are provided in all classes. Please be sure to wear a sleeved shirt when attending our aerial classes, and avoid a full stomach, as you might feel nauseous with a full stomach. Most importantly, come ready to enjoy a yoga experience unlike any other!

We have a class for everyone, from the new fitness participant to the seasoned athlete, so come and experience a class! For any questions regarding our Aerial classes, please feel free to contact me at DKrater@dmbclubs.com or contact the Village to learn more.
