Destress with Group Fitness

Exercise is a powerful tool that we have at our disposal to aid in stress relief. Generally, we think of exercise to enhance physical health, lose weight, and prevent disease, but stress relief is another way that exercise can really benefit our overall health. Group fitness classes provide many stress relief opportunities. From taking a relaxing yoga class to releasing endorphins with a high intensity bootcamp class, group fitness can certainly help you release tension and guide you to a lower-stress life! Additionally, group fitness offers a community component that individual workouts do not. In group fitness classes you will join a community and that community can lead to friendships and relationships that can improve your overall quality of life and ability to handle stressful situations.

Sticking to a Routine

Keeping an exercise routine can greatly improve your mental health. Not only are you prioritizing your health and wellbeing, but having a predictable schedule can help you maintain lower stress levels. Additionally, we all know the power of community. Having a class you look forward to attending with other people and an instructor you look forward to seeing will surely brighten your day! Use group fitness classes as an accountability tool. It is fun and motivating to work out with others. Plus, once you develop a relationship with your instructor, they will help you stay accountable to your schedule as well. Many people like to start off their morning with a workout to get the endorphins flowing while others like to release the stress of the day with an evening sweat session. Figure out what works best for your routine and stick to it!

Community in Group Fitness

Think of your next workout class as a giant hangout with friends that are like minded and all working toward a common goal. Together, you are much more likely to achieve those goals than everyone individually. Community not only offers support and friendship but also a healthy level of competition for anyone needing to up their fitness game.

Different Types of Classes for Stress Relief

Depending on your personality and stress levels, the Village offers many types of group fitness classes that can help you relieve stress. If you are looking for a class that will get your heart pumping and have you jamming out to upbeat music to kick that stress to the curb, try a cardio intensive class like cycle, bootcamp, or HIIT. If your idea of stress relief is more meditative and relaxing, you could try one of our various yoga offerings or a recovery class like Roll and Release. The Village has many types of yoga classes. From traditional yoga flows to heated yoga to yoga sculpt, there is something for everyone. One of the most relaxing classes we offer is our Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is deeply relaxing and involves no movement. Yogis will enter a meditative state as they listen to sound baths and singing bowls.

But I’ve never tried Group Fitness before!

Don’t let the stress of trying something new take away from the destressing benefits you could receive from a workout class! In all Village group fitness classes, you have certified trainers who are ready and willing to help you feel comfortable AND get in a great workout. They will guide you through the movements and help you make modifications appropriate for your ability level. Soon enough you will be so comfortable in the flow of the class that you may need to add a new class to your routine to keep things new and interesting!
