NSCA-CSCS, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist; NASM-CES, Corrective Exercise Specialist*
Ray graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in life sciences. Ray then earned a master’s degree in kinesiology with a dual specialty in both “corrective exercise and orthopedic rehabilitation” and “Sports Strength and Conditioning” from A.T. Still University. Now, Ray is currently enrolled at the University of St. Augustine, San Marcos campus in California pursuing his doctorate in physical therapy. Ray has always been involved in sports and fitness his whole life. In high school, he competed in football, basketball, and track and field. During college, Ray practiced mixed martial arts focusing primarily on boxing, muay thai and jiu-jitsu. Prior to working as a personal trainer for the Village, Ray worked as a physical therapy technician for both Foothills Sports Medicine as well as Barrow’s Brain and Spine. Ray’s sports background and educational background combined with his experience in rehabilitation have enabled him to properly navigate the sometimes “grey” area between rehabilitation and the pursuit of any fitness goals. Ray’s philosophy is that through proper and safe exercise, we gain the ability to shape and enhance our quality of life. Exercise allows us to challenge ourselves and grow not only physically but mentally. With exercise, we gain not only strength but body awareness and will to overcome pain, test our limits, and reach personal goals. But without an adequate understanding of the human body and movement, we create muscular imbalances which ultimately leads to a halt in our progress and possible injury. For this reason, Ray constantly pursues more knowledge about movement and the human body to constantly improve himself as an educator and personal trainer.
